A Spiritual Challenge for Experienced Climbers

Towering as the world's eighth-highest and one of the world's most beautiful peak, Manaslu isn't just a mountain - it's a test of spirit. Nicknamed "mountain of the spirit" in the local language, Manaslu resides just east of the Annapurna massif in Nepal's Gorkha district, captivating climbers worldwide; it stands at an altitude of 8,163 meters (26,781 feet). Kutang is another name for Mount Manaslu

This challenging climb is not for the faint hearted. Manaslu's beauty is matched only by its difficulty, demanding experience and skill from mountaineers. But for those who dare, Manaslu offers a unique opportunity:

  • Manaslu's Long Ridges: These ridges present feasible climbing routes from various directions, allowing experienced climbers to choose their preferred path.

  • Spiritual Significance: The local name, "mountain of the spirit," hints at the profound connection many climbers feel with Manaslu.

  • Limited Crowds: Unlike Everest, Manaslu offers a more intimate expedition experience with smaller group sizes.

Our program takes you on an incredible 38-day adventure to Manaslu's summit. The actual climb itself takes place between days 10 and 30, allowing ample time for acclimatization and strategizing your ascent. Join us and experience the breathtaking beauty and spiritual challenge of Manaslu in a smaller, more personalized setting.

Mount Manaslu lies in the Manaslu Conservation Area, covering the 642 sq mi/ 1663 km2 of land in the Gorkha District. The conservation area comprises sub-tropical in the lower regions to Trans-Himalayan zone in upper regions.

The point from Arughat to Larkya La Pass covers six climatic zones:

  • The tropical and Sub-tropical zone from 1000- 2000 m

  • The temperate area from 2000- 3000 m

  • The subalpine zone from 3000- 4000 m

  • The alpine area from 4000- 5000 m and the arctic zone above 4500 m

The zone differs with the variation in altitude from 600 m/2000 ft to 8156 m/26781 ft till the summit of Manaslu. This peak offers many mountaineering routes, given its flattering topography of glacial valleys and long ridges.

Spring (Mid-March to May): This period boasts milder temperatures and more stability compared to other months. However, spring also sees higher snowfall and stronger winds, leading to a lower success rate (around 30%).

Autumn (September/October): This is widely considered the prime season. Temperatures are still comfortable, and snowfall and wind are less prevalent, resulting in a significantly higher success rate (around 80%). However, this popularity translates to more climbers on the mountain.

Ultimately, the best time for your Manaslu Expedition depends on your priorities. Do you prioritize milder weather and a higher chance of success, even with more crowds? Or are you willing to brave potentially harsher spring conditions for a less crowded experience? Weighing these factors, we will help you choose the ideal season for your adventure.

Route You Will See On The Trip

Our Manaslu Expedition kicks off in Kathmandu after some final preparations. Get ready to be awestruck as we drive to Soti Khola, where rolling hills, lush pastures, and breathtaking scenery unfold before you.

From Soti Khola, our trek begins! We'll follow traditional trails, passing through charming Gurung villages as we make our way to Machha Khola. Jagat awaits next, with its gently winding paths offering a taste of the diverse landscapes to come.

Leaving Jagat behind, we head towards Deng. Keep an eye out for the fascinating Tibetan influences on the houses and culture as we traverse this leg of the journey. Next, prepare to be enveloped by the natural beauty of rhododendron and bamboo forests as we trek to Namrung.

Samagaun, our first acclimatization stop, serves as a base camp for further acclimatization before tackling Manaslu Base Camp itself. This is where the climbing period begins - a true test of your physical and mental strength.

After conquering Manaslu's summit, it's time to descend. The next day, we return to Base Camp and then down to Samagaun, where a well-deserved rest awaits. Refreshed, we embark on a journey towards Samdo village, taking in the stunning scenery along the way.

The adventure continues as we leave Samdo and head towards Larkya Phedi, encountering various religious sites that hold cultural significance in the region. We'll then conquer the high pass of the Manaslu region, Larkya La, before reaching Bimthang.

The final leg of the trek sees us descend to Dharapani and then Syange. From here, we'll take a scenic drive back to Kathmandu, marking the official end of the Manaslu Expedition. An additional day in the city allows you to rest your body and reminisce about this incredible adventure.
